In writing this week, the children have continued analysing and writing poems in response to Love That Dog. We have had some fabulous Shape poems created, and the children are extremely proud of them.

In reading, we are focussing on supporting opinions with evidence from the text.

A significant part of the spelling curriculum for Y5 involves homophones (words with the same pronunciation but different meanings) and it is something that many children find tricky. Practising these in context often helps to embed them in long term memory so any examples that you can make explicit would really help them. For example:

“We are walking along the aisle.”

“What other ‘isle’ do you know?”

“When would you use that one?”
