Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 22.09.25
Dear parents and carers,
This week in maths we have been continuing our work with place value. The children have been working with number lines up to 1,000,000.
In English we have started our new text, Hansel and Gretel by Neil Gaiman. The children are so far enjoying the dark nature of this version!
In reading we are enjoying the book, What a Waste. We have all learnt some very interesting facts about plastic pollution and recycling.
In science, the children carried out their air resistance investigation by using parachutes of varying sizes to answer the question – Does the size of a parachute affect the time it takes for it to fall to the ground?
This week we have started to focus on Coventry Cathedral in our RE lesson. We are looking at the concept of God being ‘Holy’ and ‘Loving’ and how this can be seen in the different parts of the cathedral.
In geography we created 2 bar charts of the temperature throughout the year in Bournemouth and Heimaey in Iceland. We will use that information next week, when the children will be given a problem to solve.
We hope you have a great weekend.
