We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 26.01.26

Dear parents and carers,

We had fantastic time at the panto yesterday! We all agreed it was one of the best yet!

In English this week, we have been writing diary entries in role, imagining that we were Ernest Shackleton. The children showed fantastic creativity, using dramatic descriptions and confidently writing in the first person. Their work really captured the challenges and emotions of the expedition, and it was a pleasure to read.

In guided reading we have finished Survivors and will now move onto our next text, The Storm Keeper's Island. We will be delving into the reading skill of inference.

In Maths, we have been focusing on adding fractions. This has been a tricky area, but with perseverance and lots of practise, we are starting to win against them! The children are becoming more confident and resilient when tackling these problems.

In RE, we created prayer mats as part of our topic on Islam and belonging. The children designed beautiful repeating patterns and decorated them carefully. They took great pride in their work, and the finished mats looked wonderful.

In art the children drew and then practised their Shaun Tan inspired model using quick-dry clay.

Another busy and successful week of learning!

Have a great weekend.
