We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 02.02.26

Dear parents and carers,

In English, we have been honing our skills by writing wonderful first-person extracts inspired by Ernest Shackleton. The language the students are using will truly knock your socks off! Their writing is rich, dramatic, and full of confidence, showing how far they have come as authors.

In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting fractions, using strategies such as changing denominators to help. The students have persevered brilliantly throughout their lessons this week, even when the learning felt challenging.

In Geography, our art skills came through again as students sketched mountains and explored how fossils have been found at the top of Mount Everest. Their drawings showed great attention to detail and thoughtful links between geography and history.

Looking ahead, next week is the Big Brock Dance Off. Students have been working hard to perfect beautiful routines, which they will perform at school. We understand that this can feel nerve-wracking for some, but please be assured that we will be supporting and encouraging all students throughout the activity.

In art the children have made their clay sculptures in the style of Shaun Tan's bones sculptures.

Have a great weekend.
