Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 02.03.26
Dear parents and carers,
It’s been another fantastic week in Year 5!
In Maths, we have been challenging ourselves by multiplying 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. The children worked really hard to apply their column multiplication skills and showed great determination when tackling tricky problems.
In English, we explored powerful vocabulary to describe emotions and discussed how authors help readers understand how characters are feeling. The class then used this vocabulary creatively to write their own Tanka poems. The poems were thoughtful, imaginative and full of feeling.
During guided reading, we focused on inference skills. The children practised looking for clues in the text and thinking carefully about what the author might be suggesting without saying it directly.
In Art, we became inspired by the work of Bridget Riley and her famous Starburst style. The class experimented with lines, shapes and patterns to create eye-catching optical art. The results were bold, creative and very impressive!
Despite the rainy weather, the children had a great time during their Rippa Rugby session, showing fantastic teamwork and enthusiasm while playing outside in the rain. It was wonderful to see such positive energy and resilience.
Well done, Year 5, for your hard work, creativity and brilliant attitude this week.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 5 team
