Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 13.04.26
Dear parents and carers,
This week in Year 5 has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum!
In Maths, we have been focusing on multiplying and dividing fractions. The children have been developing their confidence with these concepts and applying their skills to a range of problems. To support this learning, there is homework set on Ed Shed which will help reinforce what we have been practising in class.
In Guided Reading, we have started a new class book called Sky Song. The children have been using their inference skills to deepen their understanding of the text, thinking carefully about what is implied rather than directly stated.
In English, we have begun our new book Wild is the Wind. We explored unfamiliar and adventurous vocabulary, discussing meanings and how authors use language to create vivid imagery. The children also created a “mood palette” to describe different settings, using carefully chosen words to convey atmosphere and emotion.
In Art, we have started our unit on Islamic geometric art. The children have begun exploring patterns and shapes, learning about the precision and creativity involved in this style.
In PE, our focus is athletics. This week, the children worked on pacing themselves during long-distance running, learning how to manage their energy and maintain a steady speed.
Well done to everyone for their hard work this week!
Have a great weekend.
The Year 5 Team.
