Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 20.04.26
Dear parents and carers,
In Maths, we have been focusing on fractions. The children have been learning how to find fractions of an amount, work out the whole when given a fraction, and understand fractions as an operator. They have shown great perseverance when tackling these challenges and are becoming much more confident in applying their knowledge.
In Guided Reading, we have continued reading Sky Song. The children have been making thoughtful predictions about what might happen next, using clues from the text to support their ideas.
In English, we have been exploring setting descriptions. The class has been analysing the text structure and language features in our WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like), which they will use to support their own journey narratives. We are already seeing some fantastic descriptive ideas developing.
In Art, the children have been learning about Islamic art, focusing on geometric patterns. They have enjoyed creating their own designs inspired by this style, showing creativity and attention to detail.
In Geography, we have been learning about the geography of the New Forest, developing our understanding of the local area and its key features.
In Computing, the class has started creating their own games using Scratch. They have loved experimenting with coding and bringing their ideas to life.
In PE, we have been focusing on running with speed. The children have been practising their technique and building their stamina.
Well done to everyone for another fantastic week of learning!
Have a great weekend.
