Year 5 Blog

Week beginning - 27.04.26
Dear parents and carers,
In Maths, we have been focusing on decimals. We have been learning how to read, write, and understand numbers with up to two decimal places. We practised recognising tenths and hundredths, and we also compared and ordered decimal numbers. Some of us even challenged ourselves with solving problems involving money and measurements using decimals!
In English, we have been focusing on character descriptions inspired by our class book, Wild is the Wind. We used dashes for parenthesis to add extra detail about our characters, making our writing more descriptive and engaging.
In Geography, as part of our topic comparing the New Forest to the Lake District, we painted wonderful landscapes of the Lake District. The children worked creatively to capture the beauty of the scenery while deepening their understanding of these contrasting regions.
In RE, we took part in thoughtful debates about what we would be willing to sacrifice, encouraging us to think deeply and respectfully consider different viewpoints.
In art, we explored patterns and symmetry by creating geometric designs based on an 8-point star. We carefully used rulers and our knowledge of shapes to construct our designs. Then we added colour and patterns to make them unique and eye-catching.
A reminder that PE days are on Wednesday and Thursday, so please ensure children come prepared.
Overall, it has been another busy, creative, and rewarding week in Year 5!
Have a fun weekend.
