Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 18.06.26
Dear parents and carers,
This week in Year 5, we had a fantastic Sports Day on Thursday. The children showed great resilience in the heat and worked incredibly hard throughout all of the events. It was wonderful to see such determination, teamwork and encouragement towards one another. Well done to everyone who took part and supported their teams so positively.
In Maths, we have been learning about percentages and how they link to fractions and decimals. The children practised converting between the different forms and explored common equivalents such as 50% = 1/2 = 0.5. They used practical activities and problem-solving tasks to deepen their understanding and explain their reasoning clearly.
In English, we started our new text, The Hidden Forest by Jeannie Baker. The children used their senses to describe sounds and textures by creating a sensory collage and writing an artist’s blurb. They also worked hard on drawing inferences about characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions.
In Guided Reading, the children finished The War of the Worlds and thoroughly enjoyed learning lots of new vocabulary throughout the text.
In Art, the children completed their unit on Islamic art by learning to write their names in calligraphy. They produced some beautiful final pieces and showed great care and creativity in their work.
Have a fantastic half-term
The Year 5 Team
