Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back after a roasting half-term!

This week in Maths, we started our new unit on perimeter and area. We learnt how to calculate the perimeter of rectangles and challenged ourselves by finding the perimeter of more complex rectilinear shapes.

In English, we continued our work based on The Hidden Forest. We have been developing our writing skills by creating setting descriptions and diary entries. We also researched kelp forests in preparation for writing our own non-chronological reports.

In Guided Reading, we began our new class text, My Side of the Mountain. We have been focusing on retrieving and recording information from the text to develop our comprehension skills.

In Design and Technology, we started our new unit on mechanical structures. We investigated different types of cams and explored how they can be used to create movement in mechanical systems.

In Art, we began our exciting new topic, The Outdoor World. We learnt about the work of architect Shigeru Ban and explored how architecture can be inspired by the natural world.

It has been a busy and productive week, and we are looking forward to continuing our learning next week!
