Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 15.06.26
Dear parents and carers,
This week, Year 5 have worked incredibly hard as they completed their end-of-year assessments in Reading and Maths. We are very proud of the resilience, focus and determination they showed throughout the week.
In English, we continued our work on our kelp forests information texts. The children used adverbials to improve cohesion within their writing, helping their ideas and information flow more effectively for the reader. We also held a class debate, rehearsing arguments both for and against banning fishing as a way to protect sea kelp forests from dying out. The children demonstrated excellent speaking and listening skills while presenting their viewpoints and responding to others.
In Guided Reading, we finished our class novel My Side of the Mountain. The children thoroughly enjoyed following Sam's adventures and discussing the themes and challenges he faced throughout the story.
We also enjoyed some exciting enrichment opportunities this week. On Wednesday, the children attended a taster morning at Highcliffe School, where they experienced a range of secondary school lessons and activities. They represented the school brilliantly and returned full of enthusiasm about their experiences.
To finish the week, Year 5 took part in a tennis taster session delivered by Sway Tennis Academy. The children developed their tennis skills, practised coordination and teamwork, and had lots of fun learning from the coach.
Well done, Year 5, for another fantastic week of learning and achievement!
Have a great weekend.
The Year 5 Team
