Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 28.06.26
Dear parents and carers,
This week has been another busy and successful one in Year 5!
A huge congratulations to the four Year 5 children who represented our school in the annual Priestlands Maths Challenge. They competed against seven other schools and were crowned the overall winners. We are incredibly proud of their fantastic achievement and excellent teamwork.
In Maths, we have continued our learning on adding and subtracting decimals, developing our confidence and accuracy when solving a range of problems.
In English, we have been writing and concluding balanced discussions inspired by The Hidden Forest. Our discussions have focused on the survival of kelp forests, using evidence to present balanced arguments before reaching thoughtful conclusions.
During Guided Reading, we have explored how the author uses language to convey meaning and create atmosphere in The Infinite Lives of Maisie Day.
In Design and Technology, we have been designing cam toys. Before beginning our designs, we carried out a survey with the Year 1 children to find out about their favourite toys and characters, helping us to create products that would appeal to our target audience.
We have also continued rehearsing for our KS2 production. The children have been working incredibly hard to learn the song lyrics and choreography for our dance, and we are all looking forward to performing next Wednesday and Thursday evening at the Village Hall.
