We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 14.09.26

Dear parents and carers,

Well done to all the children who have completed their homework this week! Completing homework regularly really helps to embed the learning we have been doing in maths and spelling throughout the week. If you are having any trouble logging in or accessing the homework from home, please let us know and we will be happy to help.

This week in maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value. The children have been reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers up to 1 million, as well as finding numbers that are more or less than a given number. We have been working hard to explain our thinking and use mathematical vocabulary accurately.

In Guided Reading, we have been learning more about the Netherlands and Norway. The children have enjoyed discovering interesting facts about these countries while developing their reading and comprehension skills.

In English, we have finished and published our animal poems, inspired by the poem Adder from The Lost Words. The children have worked hard to create descriptive and imaginative poems, thinking carefully about vocabulary and how their words can bring their chosen animals to life.

In Science, we have started learning about air resistance. We have been exploring what air resistance is and beginning to think about how it affects the movement of objects.

Well done, Year 5, for another busy and productive week!
