Year 6 - 5.12.25
Happy Friday everyone! With all the Winter Wonderland excitement last Friday, I forgot to post my blog! I hope you all had a lovely time enjoying the festivities. A huge thank you to the PTA who did a fabulous job of organising everything.
One of our highlights this week has to be watching the KS1 Nativity rehearsal. We made our way to the church and watched a wonderful performance. Another highlight was our penultimate career session. This week we were joined by Mark from SPUD. SPUD is a charity focused on arts, architecture and education. They aim to bring communities together, build confidence and creativity and support career development. We found out all about the workshops and projects that SPUD has achieved, and the class went on to create their own design for our school.
In English, we have been looking at our new text, ‘A Night at the Frost Fair.’ This is a great example of a time-slip story where the main character travels back in time to a frost fair on the River Thames. So far we have explored the first few chapters together, looked at the history of frost fairs, found out the meaning of new vocabulary and compared this time-slip story to another. We are really enjoying this unit.
In maths, we have been looking at multiplying and dividing fractions. We have looked at multiplying a fraction by an integer and multiplying fractions by another fraction. We have used bar models to help us visualise what is happening to the fraction when we do this. We ended the week by dividing a fraction by an integer when it is possible to divide the numerator. We will continue with this next week.
Quick reminder – please can all children add their tree photo to Google Classroom or send to me via email: A.BLICK@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk
We hope you all have a great weekend.
