Year 6

Year 6 -
Welcome back and Happy New Year! It has been lovely catching up with the children and settling back into routines. One of our highlights has been the start of our new art Unit – Art Deco. The children found out lots of new information about Art Deco and had a go at creating their own art deco inspired art using different pens. Their work looked fantastic!
In other news we have been busy in maths looking at measurement. We started the week with metric measures and worked on converting and calculating. We have then looked at converting between kilometres and miles.
In English, we have been inspired by ‘The Happy Price’ by Oscar Wilde. We have explored the text and then considered what the character’s viewpoints could be on whether the statue should be removed. We have used starting statements to share viewpoints in role and then looked at creating our own character profiles using the illustrations in the text. The children have been wonderfully creative! They have then decided whether, based on their profiles, their character would be for or against the removal of the statue and recorded this in a recount.
Homework has been set on EdShed. It would be really beneficial for the children to try to get into a routine with completing their homework so that they have established good habits for secondary school, where the workload increases. All tasks focus on the learning that has taken place in school and help to consolidate taught areas.
Have a lovely weekend.
