Year 6

Year 6 - 26.6.26
It has been a great week in Year 6. The children have worked brilliantly despite the hot weather and have kept upbeat and positive throughout. A particular highlight was the Winchester Leavers’ Service on Monday. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with the cathedral scribes, learning about calligraphy and finding out more about the cathedral during a self-guided tour. We then had a picnic in the shade before ending the day with a lovely service inside the cathedral.
In maths, the children have been solving problems and making links with their answers. So far, they have worked with prime numbers, the date of the last day of school and the numbers displayed in the classroom. They then created their own problems for others to solve. The class also took part in a Taskmaster-style activity, in which they had to create patterns that followed a rule for their partner to guess. There were some very complex patterns produced, and it was wonderful to see such careful thinking and teamwork.
We have also been spending time creating patterns on fabric using stitching and fabric pens. This work will complete their art unit and will be transformed into a class flag for the leavers’ party. To support this project, we would be very grateful for any old T-shirts that could be used, preferably in light colours. Please send these in next week if you are able to help.
I have sent a letter home this week regarding our forest walk, which is covered under our locality permissions. Please could you ensure that the reply slip is returned to confirm whether your child requires a packed lunch to be provided by the school.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
