We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year R

Friday 22nd September 2023

Good afternoon,

We have had a lovely week in Badger class.

We had our first PE lesson on Monday and we were amazed that nothing got lost whilst getting changed! The children were very independent at doing this, well done Badgers.

We went on a welly walk around our school grounds and said hello to the pigs yesterday. Please, if your child doesn't have wellington boots in school, please could you provide some. The weather is getting more and  more wintery and we would like to get outside!

We have spent time getting to know the classroom and all of the different areas. In maths, we have been making sets and ordering numbers. We have also been sorting different objects. In writing, we have been applying the sounds we are learning in phonics lessons and practising our letter formation.

Important information:

On Monday, your child will come home with a reading book and a reading diary. This is a book that you will be able to share at home. Please do not expect them to be able to read this book fluently straight away! They will hopefully be able to identify some sounds we have learnt in school and enjoy sharing the pictures and story with you. Mrs Shilton and I will be listening to them read these books in school too. Enjoy reading to and with your child and they will soon become very independent readers. Please sign the diary when you have read and we will be able to communicate through this if you wish to.

I will also send home your Collins Ebook log in. This will be on an A4 piece of paper. We will begin reading a book in school next week and I will then set that book on Friday. This book will be familiar to your child, as we will have read it 3 times in school.

In your child’s reading diary, I will stick in a Sora library log in. This is a lovely online resource where you can share story books and other texts together. As the children progress through the school this is something they will use in class more independently so it will be great to get them excited about it now!

Next week, your child will also come home with a handwriting booklet. This will contain all of the sounds that we have learnt so far so they can practise their letter recognition and formation. There is no requirement to keep bringing this back into school but if your child would like to share their hard work with us, that would be lovely.

I know this is a lot of information but if there are any questions, please do email me. We will also be holding a Phonics information evening on Tuesday 3rd October at 6:30 in the hall. If you are able to attend this, that would be very useful.
