We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year R

Friday 5th January 2024

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas! It has been so lovely to welcome Badger class back to school this week and hear all about their holidays - it sounds like they have all had a wonderful time.

We have started to read Goldilocks and the Three Bears this week and have enjoyed lots of activities linked to this book. Today, we ordered pictures from the story and grouped them in size order to match Daddy bear, Mummy bear and Baby bear. We also talked about how the story is set in the woods and Goldilocks would have seen lots of trees on the journey to the cottage. We spent time in the playground today talking about trees and then we chose one to draw.

In phonics we have learnt 4 new graphemes; ai, ee, igh, oa. The children have done very well at spotting these digraphs/trigraphs in words. I will send a new handwriting booklet home in a couple of weeks for you to practise these at home.

In maths, we have been focusing on subitising to 5 and learning number bonds to 5. We have been using dabbers to add spots to butterflies in different formations, for example 5 can be made up of 4+1 and 3+2.

There has been a slight reshuffle in staff and we are now joined by Mr Smith Monday - Wednesday and Miss Shephard Thursday and Friday.

Badger class loved playing the train game with Mr Smith on Wednesday. I am sure you all saw the numbered platforms on the playground that the children had made - a great way to practise their number formation!

Thank you for a lovely first week Badgers. I will see you all on Monday.

Have a great weekend.
