YR Phonics and Maths information evening
Thank you to all of those of you who attended our information evening tonight it was good to see so many of you there. For those who were unable to make it or those who did but would like to digest the information once more here are copies of the information we gave out:
We also gave out individual logins for the Mathletics website: http://uk.mathletics.com/ see where it says "Sign in here" in the top right corner. Explore it for yourself and see what you think. You don't need to get a subscription your child is already a member through the school's subscription.
I also recommended more Early Years friendly websites such as Topmarks. I recommend this website in particular because the games are good but also I recommend you click on the "Parents' Resources" tab at the top for more ideas on supporting your child at home with all aspects of learning.
Remember no reading books yet but instead we are focussing on learning our sounds and beginning to blend them together in order to read: eg m-a-t, mat. We encourage reading at home and recommend you join up to the library in Lymington if you want more books (information as well as stories) but if you want to we can show you how to change your library book more regularly in school. From next week you will also be able to take home one of the green story sacks which contain a story book, an information book and activities to go with them.
We will keep you updated with our focus letters each week so far we have revisited: s, c, m, and a and I will be doing t and p later this week.
We have given everybody a little green book of sounds for reference but are suggesting that you don't try writing in them yet - see the attachment below. Instead use it to help your child recognise and remember all the different sounds.
If there is anything else you wish to know please do ask one of us at any stage.
We reminded parents that children should only have water in their water bottles.
I also asked that any parent who might be able to help at any time this year as a one off for a special day or trip or regularly in class asks for a DBS form at the office now and completes it in readiness as they take a little while to come through.
This Thursday afternoon we are hoping to go for a walk to explore the common outside our school. If anyone already has their DBS clearance and would like to come with us to support please let us know.
We hope to give you more details about Tapestry - our online Learning journals but we are not quite there with the admin. Hopefully you will receive a letter to sign soon.
Thank you for all your support.
