    What a fun-filled week we've had in Year 1!

Our highlight this week was definitely Pirate Day! The children had an amazing time dressing up as pirates and mermaids. We went on an exciting treasure hunt around the school grounds, solving clues and using maps to guide our way.

A big thank you for all the junk modelling materials you sent in! The children used them creatively to build pirate ships and accessories. It was a fantastic day full of imagination and hands-on learning

Keeping Our Children Safe in the Hot Weather

As the temperatures rise, please ensure your child comes to school prepared for the sunny days ahead. We kindly ask you:

    • Apply sun cream to your child in the morning before school.

    • Send your child with a named hat.

    • Provide a named water bottle.

Upcoming Event: Pirate Day – Thursday 26th June

On Thursday 26th June, we will be celebrating our learning all about pirates! To mark the occasion, we invite the children to come to school dressed as a pirate, mermaid, or sea creature. Please spread the word and take a moment to read our blog from 11.06.25 for more details.

We’re excited to see the children’s creative costumes and celebrate together!

    Good afternoon everyone,

We have enjoyed another great week of learning in Year 1 and have been busy as usual!

In English, we have been learning how to write compound sentences using the conjunction ‘and’ to join simple sentences. We have also produced some fantastic pieces of descriptive writing based on the ‘Storm Whale.’ The children have been very independent with their writing and demonstrated that they can incorporate the skills they have already learnt, in their writing – well done!

In Maths, we have continued to focus on measuring capacity and volume and looking at different ways we can do this. We have also been comparing volume and capacity and using more than, less than or equal to in our learning. Home learning- https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/homework

In Phonics, we focused on sounds: oo (as in blue) or (chew) and yoo (as in argue) as well as or (as in claw). Tricky words – today, their, people, your, any. Home learning Little Wandle ebooks https://www.collinshub.co.uk/login/

In Geography, we have been looking rock pools and sorting which sea creatures would and would not survive in a rock pool. The children have also drawn some fantastic pictures of rock pools.

A reminder that our Library day is a Friday. This is when the children can browse the library and change their library books if they want to.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday.

  • Year 1 - Planting

    Published 07/05/25, by Rachel Platt

    Hello,

On Monday 12th May, we will be planting runner beans in yogurt pots; this is part of our science topic, which is all about how plants grow. Please could you save any small see-through yogurt pots for planting. The pots need to be see-through because we plan to observe and monitor the seeds germinating once they have been planted in their pots.

I have already started saving some empty yogurt pots for those who don’t have see-through ones at home, so there should be plenty to go around!

    Many thanks

    Amy Burch
