Y1 look forward to an exciting week ahead!
Y1 have been very inspired by our Space topic. I've said as a reward for all their hard work and excellent behaviour they will be having a special treat on Thursday when I have arranged for the Science dome to come to school. They will set up their plantarium in the school hall and we will go in for a show all about space exploration. Very exciting!
We are also excited because we have a new girl, Rose, who will hopefully be starting in our class on Monday. The children are looking forward to making a new friend and I'm sure they will make her very welcome.
We have been looking at non-fiction books about Space and using them to find answers to our questions. Next week we hope to make a class non-fiction book about Space using all the facts we have found out.
Inspired by last week's story - Whatever Next!, I brought in four giant cardboard boxes from home with the hope of the children using them to get to the Moon. With the help of Cadi's Mum this afternoon they just might as they have been transformed in an impressive looking rocket. They made many more mini rockets of their own as well - a busy afternoon.
In maths we have been looking at Place Value - tens and ones. See if your child can count on or back in tens from differnet numbers ( a hundred square might help).
There has been sickness and scarlet fever this week in Year 1. I hope all those affected are better soon and the rest of you stay healthy.
