Year 1- Friday 14th January
Dear Parents
This week has been another busy week in Year 1!
The children started the week with some Geography, they looked at different types of weather and made their own rain gauge. We have been checking the levels of rain, although there hasn’t been much yet! In Art, the children had a look at Gaudi’s Trencadis animals and recreated their own with colour paper.
In maths, we have been continuing with our place value learning. The children have been reading, partitioning and ordering numbers up to 50. We have been using tens frames and dienes to help us.
In English the children have been learning how to punctuate sentences and learning to use the word ‘and’. We have then started to look at what a non-chronological report is and what we need to include ready for us to write one next week!
We are really trying to encourage reading as much as we can at home. This is really important for them to keep practising each day even if it is for a short period of time. To really encourage the children we are going to tell them that for everyday they read with you at home we will give them a sticker. If you could please record this in their reading diary.
Last reminder, we know that some parents were coming in and helping at different times of the week. If you have a DBS Check and would like to continue with this could you let Mrs Carney or myself know either at the end of the day or by email through the office. We would love to set this up again now we are into the New Year.
Many thanks
The Year 1 Team
