We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Friday 18th February

Year 1 Friday Blog

Dear Parents,

Wow, this half-term has flown by! The children have amazed us with their learning over the last 7 weeks and I know they are all ready for a well deserved break.

English

This week we have been continuing to write our story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have loved finishing their stories this week and have really impressed us with remembering what they need to use in their writing. The children have used capital letters, full stops, the conjunction ‘and’, their phonics sounds and an exclamation mark.

Maths

We have been learning all about telling the time this week. The children started the week with thinking about sequencing events in their day and what time these happen. They then used an analogue clock to tell the time to o’clock and half past. At the end of the week the children enjoyed a practical lesson using the scales to find out about mass. They used the scales to weigh different objects and compared them using the language heavier and lighter.

A few messages…

Thank you for your time this week for Parent’s Evening, it was lovely to hear that the children are all enjoying school. A few parents asked about having a list of the Year 1 Common Exception Words to practise at home. I have attached these to this post so any extra practise you can do at home would be amazing! These are a list of words that the children are expected to be able to read and write by the end of the year.

Also, just a quick reminder that on Friday 4th March we will be celebrating World Book Day in school. The children can come in dressed up as their favourite book character. You should have all received a Scavenger Hunt Sponsor Form to fill in over half-term which will be one of the activities on the day, and we have lots of other exciting things planned for the children.

We hope you all have a lovely half-term, and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 28th!
