We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Friday 11th March

Year 1 Friday Blog

Dear Parents,

The children have had a fantastic week with lots of exciting learning happening.

English

This week we have been writing a diary in the viewpoint of Bob from our book ‘Man on the Moon’. The children looked at different diary extracts to understand what the features of a diary were. Then they planned their own diary entry, sequencing Bob’s day in the correct order. At the end of the week we wrote our diary entry remembering to use the correct spelling for the day of the week, a contracted form and used the word ‘and’ to extend our sentences.

Maths

In maths, we have been looking at multiplication this week. The children used a number line to count in 2’s and 10’s. We then practised adding equal groups and used this knowledge to learn about arrays to solve multiplication problems.

Phonics

This week in phonics we have been learning these sounds; ‘ire’, ‘ear’, ‘ure’ and ‘tion’. The children have been practising all of their sounds, reading them in real and nonsense words and practising writing the words with these sounds in.

History

The children really enjoyed learning about different astronauts including; Tim Peake, Yuri Gagarin and Mae Jemison. The children thought about questions that they would like to ask them, and they designed a stamp to symbolise the first man landing on the moon.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
