We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 1

Year 1 Friday Blog

It was lovely to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they returned to school on Monday. It was lovely to hear what they have been up to over Easter, I know a lot of chocolate has been eaten!!! We have had a busy week and have all worked really hard.

English

In English we have been looking at different types of poems, the children have enjoyed listening to them. We have discussed our favourite ones, we especially like ‘On the Ning, Nang, Nong’. Our book focus is Seaside Poems, we have enjoyed exploring the poems in the book. The children have been writing a list of what they would take to the beach and have drawn our own beach scene and labelled it using describing words.

Maths

This week we have been looking at Money, we have recognised and looked at the value of different notes and coins. The children have been counting in 2p’s and 10p’s and ordering different amounts of money.

Geography

We have started a new topic, looking at the seaside and how it is different from other places. The children enjoyed the story of ‘Sally and the Limpet’ and they wrote a postcard to tell everyone what happened to Sally. We have also been discussing pollution and how it is harmful, the children have designed poster to remind people to not drop litter at the beach.

We are also going to link the seaside theme to art, and we have explored different seaside artists. The children had to explain which was their favourite piece of seaside art and why.

Science

In Science this term we are going to be learning about different materials.  This week we looked at rock, brick, water and glass. The children were very good at describing the objects and sorting them into different categories.

Please remember to sign the reading diary, the children are filling up their sticker charts!!

Hope you all have a lovely long weekend.
