Year 1
Friday 7th October 2022
Another great week in Year 1!
In English, we have been using lots of new skills which will help us write our description of our school, for example that we need to use capital letters when we are writing people’s names. We have practised this by describing our teachers! Some personal favourites were ‘Miss Prichard is a rock star’ and ‘Mrs Morris is funny and beautiful’!
In maths, we have been recognising and counting 1p and 10p coins. The children had lots of fun buying cakes from their friends and counting out the correct amount of money.
The children have been really enjoying their music lessons with Mr Thomas on a Tuesday. They have been using their voices and instruments to explore textures of sound.
In geography, we are learning all about our local area. The children have been using Google Earth to locate where we live and to understand the different forms of geography that surrounds us. Today, the children really impressed me with their map reading skills when we went on a walk of the school.
I would like to do a walk around Brockenhurst on Thursday next week so the children can really understand the geography of the local area. I would really appreciate it if any parents would like to join us on Thursday morning. Please email me if you would be happy to come with us! Thank you.
Thank you to everyone who joined Mrs Morris and I for the phonics information evening. I hoped it helped you to understand our new scheme; if you have any further questions please do contact me.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Miss Prichard and Mrs Kitcher
