Year 1
Friday 6th January 2023
Hello everyone and Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a relaxing and fun break. The children have been very excited to tell us all of the lovely things that you have been up to.
Despite it being a short week, we have been very busy indeed! It is so lovely to see all of the children again as they themselves into their learning.
In English, we have been reading the book ‘Croc and Bird’. We have been making predictions and inferences about the book and ordering and acting out the story.
In maths, we have been ordering and representing numbers to 50. We have been using number lines and dienes to help us and we are now much more confident in using these larger numbers to solve problems.
In science today, we took part in an experiment to help us think about our senses. The children were presented with 3 different jellies and we were predicting the flavour of the jelly. We were then able to taste the jelly and again guess the flavour we thought it was. What we didn’t know was that the jelly had food colouring in it. We came to the conclusion that even though we tasted it, we still guessed that the red jelly was strawberry just because we could see that it was red! Koalas were great at using scientific language when they were taking part in the experiment, well done!
Notices:
I have set a reading book on Collins Ebooks for the children to read at home. I will continue to do this every Friday. This is a book that the children have read at school all week so I am sure they will enjoy reading it with you at home. Thank you for your continued support.
I have also set a Maths Shed task. This will be linked to our learning in school and I will also set this on a Friday.
As Year 1 took part in Forest School in the Autumn term, we will not be doing it this term so the other year groups can have a turn. Therefore, the children do not need their Forest school clothes in school. I will send these home throughout next week.
Thank you for your continued support, it is greatly appreciated. As always, if you have any questions please email me or catch me on the door at the end of the day.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Prichard and Mrs Kitcher
