We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 1

Friday 27th  January 2023

We have had a fantastic week in Year 1.

Yesterday, we were very lucky because we went to see a pantomime at the village hall. It was Beauty and the Beast and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed it!

In English, we finished our non-fiction book about animals. The children are extremely proud of what they have written; as am I! It is now sitting proudly in our book corner in the non-fiction section.

We have now begun our new writing unit. We have been reading Little Red Riding Hood and we will be moving on to writing newspaper reports before half term.

In maths, we have been learning how to read and show o’clock and half past times on an analogue clock. The children are very keen to tell the time throughout the school day and tell us when it is break time and lunch time!

In RE, we have been looking at the Hindu festival of Holi and how they celebrate it to remember Vishnu. This week, we have been discussing our own experiences of remembering. We went and asked some teachers something special that they remember in their lives and shared everyone’s ideas.

Thank you to everyone who has logged on to read their Little Wandle reading book. As the children are progressing through the books, they are becoming much more challenging and interesting for the children. There is a variety of fiction and non-fiction books which generates great discussion.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

The Year 1 Team.
