Year 1
Friday 24th March 2023
Happy Friday!
We have had a very busy week!
In English, we have begun our new unit based on the book ‘Beegu’. Our task is to write Beegu a letter asking her lots of questions about her home.
In maths, we are applying our addition and subtraction skills to money. The children have become much more confident in recognising coins and adding them together to make an amount. Next week, we will be applying addition and subtraction skills to mass. This afternoon, we explored using the scales to get an idea of key vocabulary we will need to use.
We have started our DT unit this week by planning our free standing structures. Our task is to make animal enclosure play equipment more exciting for the animals at Marwell Zoo! We drew our plans, added labels and then made them out of Lego. On Monday, we will be spending the day making them.
Now that we are in the build up to Easter, we have started to design an Easter bunny using different patterns and colours. The children have really enjoyed doing this and they are looking brilliant and very effective!
Next week, we have a book fair coming to school. As the letter states that was sent out, Year 1’s day is Monday 27th March after school in the Year R classroom. The children have looked at the books and are very keen to share them with you. If you are unable to attend, the letter explains how you can order these online.
I am very excited to have sent out a letter about a trip to Lepe Beach today! After our very successful trip to Marwell Zoo, I couldn’t wait to book another one! If you are able to help on this trip, please let me know. Thank you very much.
Thank you for a wonderful week Year 1.
I hope you have a lovely weekend, see you all on Monday.
