We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 1 -27.9.24

This week has been another exciting one for our Year 1! They were thrilled to share their amazing stories with Year R and we were delighted to welcome Year 2 children who came to read to Year 1.

We’ve begun exploring our new text, Oliver’s Vegetables. The children worked hard to sequence the story, writing sentences to describe what happens each day. Alongside this, we practised writing the days of the week, making sure to start each one with a capital letter.

In Maths, we’ve been focusing on counting backwards from 20 and finding one less than a given number. The children are doing a fantastic job with this, and we can see their confidence growing! I have set some homelearning games to practise these skills. https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/homework

During our Jigsaw sessions, we discussed what makes a good friend. The children shared their ideas about how we can support someone who might be feeling sad or lonely, and it was wonderful to see them practising kindness throughout the week. We also talked about the importance of making new friends within class and school.

Our Art lessons continue to spotlight the work of Eric Carle, with the children creating vibrant, creative pieces inspired by his style. In Geography, excitement is building as the children practised their map-reading skills around the school grounds. This activity was in preparation for our upcoming walk next week—fingers crossed for good weather! I’ll keep an eye on the forecast and update helpers if anything changes.

Thank you so much for your continued support!
