Year 1 - 18.10.24
Good afternoon, Year 1 Parents,
This week in Year 1, we’ve been busy exploring some exciting topics!
English
In English, we focused on using interesting adjectives to describe the castle in Jack and the Beanstalk. The children had fun thinking of descriptive words! We also discussed the pronoun ‘I’ when sharing our favourite parts of the story, helping them express their thoughts more clearly.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been using the part, part, whole model to add and partition numbers to 10. I’ve assigned some home learning to reinforce these skills. You can find the tasks at Ed Shed Homework. If you prefer not to use a computer, I’ve attached a part, part, whole model that your child can explain and use with counters or toys at home.
Phonics
During Phonics, we reviewed all the sounds we’ve learned so far, focusing on tricky words to help consolidate our learning. Please encourage your child to practice the words “her” and “here,” as many are still getting stuck on these.
Creative Arts
We also completed our fantastic leaf sculptures! The children thoroughly enjoyed collecting leaves and using them creatively. Please see attached.
Upcoming Trip
Our trip to New Park has been rescheduled for next week. Please ensure your child wears welly boots and a coat on Thursday, as we’ll be planting a “mini forest.”
We’re looking forward to catching up with you all at Parents Evening next week. Have a lovely weekend!
Warm regards,
The Year 1 Team
