Year 1 - 15.11.24
What a fun-filled week we've had in Year 1! We’ve started practising for our nativity play, and your child will bring home a letter with their character and costume details. If you need any help with the costume, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
In English, we’ve continued with The Three Little Pigs, writing captions, focusing on capital letters, and retelling the story using our story maps. We’d love for you to join us for story time on Wednesday, November 27th at 2:40 PM in the school hall. An invitation will be sent home soon, and the children are very excited!
In Maths, we are progressing with our addition unit and solving various problems.
For Phonics, we’ve been learning about alternative vowel sounds (e.g., o in pot/post, i in him/tiger, a in cat/paper, e in hen/he). Our new tricky words are Mr, Mrs, Ms, and ask.
In Handwriting, we’ve completed the curly caterpillar and one-armed robot letters. I’ve attached practice sheets for anyone who’d like to practise at home.
In History, we’re exploring toys from the past. This week, we discussed toys from the 1960s and compared them to today. We also started a timeline. For home learning, please help your child find out:
- What year were you born?
- What year were your parents born?
- What year were your grandparents born?
- What toys did your grandparents play with?
If any grandparents are available to visit and share their memories, we’d love to have them!
Thank you for your continued support. The children continue to amaze us with their creativity, enthusiasm, and great attitude towards learning.
Best regards,
The Year 1 Team
