Year 1 - 23.5.25

Good afternoon everyone,
It was absolutely wonderful to be back with the children this week and to see how much they’ve grown and developed. They really are a credit to you all – so full of energy, kindness and curiosity.
It was also such a joy to see so many of you at Sports Day! What a fantastic afternoon we had, filled with sunshine, smiles and team spirit. Thank you so much for your continued support – it really does mean a lot.
This week in English, we’ve been diving into poetry. The children created their own seaside-themed poems using their senses. We were so impressed with their imaginative ideas – there was brilliant use of alliteration, wonderful word choices, and some very descriptive adjectives!
In Maths, we’ve been exploring equal groups, doubling, and we’ve just started learning about arrays. The children continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s – a skill you can easily help them with at home too! https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/homework
We’ve been reviewing all the phonics sounds we’ve learnt so far. Please do keep up regular reading at home over the half-term – it really helps to reinforce their learning and build confidence. Little Wandle e-books are an excellent resources to practise applying these sounds and are set weekly https://primaryteacher.collinshub.co.uk/
In science, we’ve concluded our experiment on whether all plants need soil to germinate. The children discussed their findings and wrote thoughtful evaluations – a brilliant end to a hands-on investigation!
Thank you again for your ongoing support. We hope you all enjoy a safe and restful half-term break. We’re looking forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 2nd July.
Warm wishes,
Year 1 Team
