As part of our English,  for the next few weeks we will be using 'Lost in the Toy Museum' as our stimulus.

Please could you email me   a photo of your child with their favourite toy.

Ask them why they have chosen this and how could they describe their toy.

We will need these for our writing on Wednesday 29th November.  My email is  r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk

    Many thanks

    Good afternoon,

What another fantastic week in Owls. The nativity practises are now in full swing! The children are working so hard to learn all the songs and cannot wait to show you their hard work. Next week we will be practising at the church. A little reminder that costumes can start coming to school as of Monday 27th November and no later than Friday 1st December, please ensure these are named and in a named carrier bag.

    Good afternoon,

We hope you are all keeping well and well doyen Owls for all your hard work and achievements this week.

This week in Phonics we have been continuing to learn alternative spellings including split digraphs these include; a-e as in snake, i-e as in time, o-e as in home, u-e as in  cute and yoo as in rude. Please help your child to spot these in books.

Our new tricky words are; Mr, Mrs, Ms, ask, could, would, should, our. Again, please help your child to read and spot these. Remember tricky words can not be sounded out.

In English, we have been talking about the main characters in 'The Three Little Pigs', creating a role on the wall. We discussed what they look like and their feelings. The children also had great fun creating their own puppets in readiness to tell their stories to Year R next week. They can not wait!

    Good afternoon,

We have been having lots of fun practising the nativity songs this week. Owls should have come home with a costume letter yesterday. As the letter states, please do not buy accessories, but be as creative as you wish with what you already have. If anyone is finding it hard to provide a costume, please let us know and we can help. Please send costumes to school in a named carrier bag for the week commencing 27th November and no later than 1st December.

In Phonics this week our focused sounds are; o (as in go), i (as in tiger), a (as in paper), e (as in he). We have stressed the importance of trying to use the sounds they first learnt in year R when sounding out words and if these do not make sense try using these new sounds.

Tricky words are as follows; your, people, their, oh, Mr, Mrs, Ms, ask.

    Good afternoon,

In Phonics, we have learnt four new GPC’s; ir (first, bird, girl), ie (lie, cried, fried), ue (blue, rescue, argue), u (unit, tuna, music). We have also learnt new tricky words (words that can not be sounded out); here, today, one, their, people, oh, your. Please encourage your child to spot these in books.

Well done to all the children who are reading your most recent Little Wandle e-book, it is really supporting your phonics and reading skills.

In English, we have been learning and practising ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children have drawn excellent story maps to help them remember the beginning, middle and end. In a few weeks they will perform their stories to year R, using the puppets they have made in class. Children may like to practise and perform to you!

In Maths, we have continued to add, solve problems and using the part, part, whole method. Children are getting really good at grasping this concept.

Over the next few weeks, Mrs Langton will be joining us at various parts of the day to get to know the children and make those important relationships with the children.
