We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 2

Year 2 - Blog 09.10.2020

This week in English we have started our new learning journey. We started the week with a practical lesson where we focused on the importance on instructions being clear and precise! I became a robot and the children had to teach me how to draw on the whiteboard. The children then practise in pairs and came up with instructions for putting on a shoe, drinking from a water bottle, drawing and many more! We have then moved on to reading ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ which is a very funny instruction book. We ended the week by sequencing pictures of the story and writing sentences to go with them.

In maths we have been focusing on number bonds. We started with remembering our number bonds to 10 and then moved on to 20. We have used equipment, pictures, part/whole models and bar models to represent our number bonds. We will continue this work next week. When children are fluent in the recall of their number bonds to 20, it can really help in many areas of maths. You could use the Topmarks website to help practise at home: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

In art this week we created our own collage that links with our geography learning about Antarctica and the Arctic. The outcome was brilliant! In science we explored the sensory garden and learned about microhabitats.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
