Year 2
Year 2- 07.05.2021
What a lovely sunny end to the week. We spent our golden time on the field, which was great fun and lovely to make the most of the sunshine – it seems a rain shower is never far away at the moment!
This week in English we have written our own Lighthouse Keeper story. We compared ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ with the ‘Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic’ to explore structure, characters and plot and then wrote our own stories to add to the collection. I was really impressed with the range of ideas and the effort that went into writing the stories. On Monday we will make these into our own books.
In maths this week we have been looking at finding quarters of quantities. We have used concrete resources, pictures and bar models to support our understanding and help us work out ¼, 2/4 and ¾ of an amount. We have also revisited equivalence between 2/4 and ½. I am very proud of the children. Fractions can be challenging and year 2 have persevered with a positive attitude all week. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow.
In art we painted our drawings from last week and in science we played a game that helped us to explore and discuss the suitability of different materials. Another highlight was scooter day on Monday! The weather stayed dry and we took part in an excellent scooter session. The children had so much fun and tried some great tricks!
I hope you all have a good weekend.
Best wishes
