Year 2
Friday 9th June 2023
We have had a lovely start to the second part of the summer term in Penguin class this week!
In English we have started a new unit based on the book the Night Gardener. Penguins have really enjoyed this story so far especially the beautiful pictures completing some brilliant work on the changes from start to finish. In guided reading we are exploring the book the Tear Thief and have been thinking about the different emotions associated with colours.
In maths we have been recapping our place value knowledge with Penguins being very good at representing numbers in a variety of ways. We have also started a new history unit based on the history of the school with our lesson this week taking us on a trip around school to identify which part of the building is old and which is new. In PSHE we have started our Changing Me unit looking at life cycles and in RE we have started exploring Hinduism.
A Few Admin Bits:
As the summer weather has definitely arrived please could you make sure your child has a sun hat in school every day.
Next week in science we are going to be doing an experiment based around bungee cords. With this in mind on Thursday please could your child bring in a small cuddly toy of their choice.
Later in the term we are going to be making Explorer Vehicles. To help us with this we need as much recycling as possible (boxes, toilet rolls, milk bottle tops etc) so for the next few weeks please could you send your recycling into school rather than pop it out for collection! Thank you!
And finally, in the coming weeks we are going to be starting a new science unit on plants. If you have any small plastic plant pots at home that you don't want please could you send them in? Thank you!
Thank you so much for all your ongoing support and help - it is hugely appreciated! Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
Miss Michael :)
