Year 2 - 14.09.18
We have had a great week in year 2. In science we have begun our topic for this half term which is ‘Animals and Humans’. We started by making observations in our school grounds. We spotted a variety of insects as well as birds and squirrels. We also spoke about the animals we would see in the New Forest and animals we are less likely to encounter.
In English we have started our text ‘The Tear Thief’ by Carol Duffy. The children really enjoyed making predictions about what could happen in the story based on the front cover alone. We have now read the story as a class and discussed what is happening throughout. We have created a word bank of verbs and then written sentences paying careful attention to writing in the correct tense.
In maths we have been focussing on number bonds to 20. We used equipment to make them and represented them using pictures and number sentences. We are working on all children being able to recall these number facts fluently. There is an online game on Topmarks (https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button) which the children can practise their number bonds if you wish.
I hope you have a great weekend.
