We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 2

Year 2 - 12.102018

We have had a great week in year 2.  We have continued to explore ‘Croc and Bird’ in class.  One focus was writing sentences with coordinating conjunctions such as ‘and’, ‘or’ and ‘but’.  This week’s homework gives the children the opportunity to practise identifying and using them. Next week we will carry out our own research about animals and compile a class fact file to share with other children in the school.  Our trip to Marwell will certainly help with this and provide real inspiration for our writing.

We have continued to work on addition and subtraction.  The children have tackled different problems related to addition and subtraction and have used a variety of ways to solve them. The have selected resources /used methods that they find are suitable for them and explained their preferred method.

We have ended the week with an art lesson that we very much enjoyed.  We were inspired by our harvest song ‘Autumn Days’ and created pieces of art around the autumn theme.  Some children chose to use pastels and others used paints.

Marwell Zoo – thank you for all of your offers to help with the trip. We never know how many adult helpers will be available and therefore accepted the first offers to ensure we had enough adults on the day.  Those who are helping are now aware, so if you have not been contacted then we thank you very much for your offer and hopefully you can come along next time.  With any future outings we will try to vary the adult helpers.

Reading at home – Today all children have come home with a reading bookmark that they helped to make in school.  This may help when reading with your child at home.  It has some great prompts and questions you could ask to support their comprehension skills. The reading characters featured such as ‘Predicating Pip’ are the same used in school so the children are familiar with them. When we assess children’s reading skills we are looking at word reading, fluency and comprehension to ensure that each child is progressing through the books at a pace that suits them in all of these areas.  I really hope the bookmark will be of some use. If you have any queries, please let me know.

Have a great weekend.

Miss Blick
