Whole School
Remembrance Morning
Years 1-6 were all involved this morning in our Art and History morning of Remembrance. We were joined in assembly by Nick Saunders, a local Historian, who told us the story of the First World War and its impact on Brockenhurst. His story had such relevance to us, as he told of young soldiers from Brockenhurst, many of whom had attended our school, who were killed during the war. He was helped by his son, who was dressed as a soldier, complete with pack and rifle. The children and staff were fascinated by all he had to say. After assembly, some children also enjoyed the opportunity to feel just how heavy the rifle really was and try on a soldier's helmet.
After this the children were split into groups and were able to take part in three different poppy related art activities. It is always lovely to work with the children in groups of mixed ages. It shows our children at their best as they support and encourage each other. They have produced some amazing art today - keep your eyes out around the school as we will attempt to display it for all to see.
