We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 3 Blog- 11th November 2022

Another super week year 3! Well done :)

This week in English, we continued to use ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ as a stimulus for our learning, discussing the differences between commands, statements, explanations and rhetorical questions. We have also been acting out the emotions of the crayons, through a drama session and talked about the meaning of empathy.

In Maths, we have started our multiplication and division unit, recapping on our 2,5,10 timetables and practising 3 and 4 timetables. Well done to all the children who have been practising their timetables at home, this has really helped in class this week. We played ‘hit the button’ which can be found https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and learnt a song about our 3 times tables https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XzfQUXqiYY which we have challenged the children to learn and have fun with at home. Happy dancing!

We have also been using our mathematical knowledge to solve problems.

During our R.E lessons this week, we have been exploring our key concept ‘Candle light as a symbol’. We began by discussing the symbol of a candle in our lives and others, sharing when we might light a candle. We have been learning about the Jewish festival Hanukah and how it is celebrated. The children were very interested in how and why Jews celebrate this.

In worship this week we have been discussing and reflecting on the importance of ‘Remembrance’ and the symbol of the poppy.
