We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 3 Blog -20.1.23

Second week of swimming and the children are having a blast! We are so incredibly proud of their hard work, resilience and perseverance.  It is so wonderful to hear the excitement on a Friday lunchtime when getting ready. Please ensure they have their swimming kit with them on a Friday.

Apologies for the late return back to school and any inconvenience this has caused. To ensure the children get the full hour in the pool, the children will return later than planned, also due to traffic at that time of day. Swimming is mandatory as part of the National Curriculum. Therefore we aim to be back at school at the very latest at 3.40pm. For those children that attend Chelsea Football Club, afterschool children are encouraged to bring their football kit to change into after swimming.

This week in English year 3 have enjoyed listening to and reading poems a firm favourite was ‘Chocolate Cake’ by Micheal Rosen. We thought about the effects of the poem on the reader.  They have also been very creative in planning and writing their own poems about their interests.

In Maths, we have been learning the next part of our measure unit - time. We have been telling the time using an analogue and digital clock. Recapping our knowledge of o’clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to. Then learning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. We thought about and used the language; am, pm, morning, noon, evening, afternoon and midnight.

Please encourage your child to complete their homework on Ed shed on time.  It is important that they are able to consolidate their learning for the week.

Reminders

*Homework  - Edshed- maths, spelling and phonics

* TT Rockstars – by the end of year 3 children need to be confident with 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, 3’s, 4’s and 8’s timetables.

* Read school books

For fluency and progression in reading skills children must read their school book. When reading at home, please make a note in their diary so we can change their book if they have read them. We understand life is busy, but if they have read and you are short of time perhaps write the title and initial.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on: e.townsend@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk and r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk

To help us ensure there is consistency please contact both Emma and I.

Stay warm this weekend.
