Year 4
News of the week - 20/9/19
We have had another busy week in Year 4. The children have continued to show their great learning attitudes and are really engaged in their learning.
In maths, we have continued with our work on Place Value. The children have been working with numbers up to 10,000 and have had to compare, order and round these numbers. They have been using practical resources, drawings and number lines to support their learning and they have deepened their understanding by working on reasoning and problem solving questions.
In English, the children have planned and written their own adventure stories, focusing on developing a good plot and using descriptive language. They have worked really hard on these and it has been really enjoyable to see their writing styles.
The children have been busy in all other areas of their learning. They have produced some brilliant art work inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, a sculptor. PE lessons have been great with the children demonstrating fantastic teamwork skills.
Homework
The children will be given their log ins for Mathletics, Times Table Rock Stars and Spelling Shed at the beginning of next week. The children will be set maths homework through Mathletics every week to complete, as in previous years. Spelling Shed is a new and exciting resource that we are using as a school. The children will be able to access their weekly spellings with their log in and play a variety of games in order to practise these. The spellings will be taught in lessons during the day but these games will allow the children to revise these and become more familiar with them. Mathletics homework and spellings will be set on a Wednesday with a week to complete.
The children should also be practising their times tables regularly and Times Table Rock Stars is a great website to do this.
All children should be bringing home their reading books daily so please make sure they are also reading regularly.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
