Year 4
Year 4 - 20.10.2023
We have made it to the end of our first half term! Well done year 4 for all of your hard work over the past seven weeks. We are really proud of how you’ve settled into new routines. It was great to meet you all during our Parents’ Evenings this week and share how your children have been getting on.
This week in maths, we have been adding two four-digit numbers. We have recapped column addition and worked on how to set out our work to minimise errors. We have used a range of representations, including bar models, and solved a variety of different problem solving tasks. We have focused on some problems that have more than one answer and finding all the possibilities.
In English we have written our own information pages based on an animal that doesn’t normally have the ability to fly! Year 4 had a great time planning their writing and were very creative with their ideas! They then used their plans to write their information pages, which included some fantastic vocabulary.
In science this week, we have been applying our knowledge of mixtures and how to separate them. We used sieves, funnels, filter paper and magnets. It was a great hands on experience, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
Forest School – Group 2 will begin their Forest School sessions after half term on Monday 30th October. Please come prepared with a pair of wellie boots, a waterproof coat, hat etc. If you have waterproof trousers, then these can be used as well. Alternatively, you may wish to send your child in with a pair of old jogging bottoms or trousers. We will be going outside in all weathers and they will get muddy! They may benefit from a pair of gloves and a warm hat, depending on the weather
We hope you all have a lovely half term!
