We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Y5 22.11.19

Dear parents,

We have had another busy week. On Monday we welcomed grandparents into class, and were full to over-flowing. It was lovely to see them helping the children with their literacy tasks, based on a stunning book- The Lost Words.

On Wednesday, Y5 & Y6 were treated to a performance by some pupils from Highcliffe School. We listened to their Woodwind Band, Folk Band and Funky Jazz Band – it was a fabulous start to the day.

Today, we have had a visit from Dr Sue and Dr Mike who are organising an outreach intergenerational project with Y5 and the Friday Club Seniors.  They introduced us to Tin Pan Alley songs and even showed us how to Charleston.  The children enjoyed learning the songs and dances today.  We look forward to welcoming them and the Friday Club Seniors to our school to sing and perform together on Friday 6th December.

Maths homework this week – (instead of Mathletics).

Please use a train timetable and plan a trip from Brockenhurst. (It should be less than 3 hours and be one way).

I would like you to calculate the shortest journey to your chosen destination and the longest.  Can you travel every day?

Are the times the same every day of the week?

Optional:

If you did this journey every weekday, how many hours would you spend on the train each week/month/year?

What happens to those durations if you add a return journey?

Due next Friday – record your findings so you can easily explain them to a friend in class.

Have a lovely weekend.

Year 5 team.
