We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 05.09.22

Dear parents and carers,

We have had a very successful first week. The children have learnt the routines and are responding well.

In reading we are studying the Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Planets book, focusing on the technique of skimming and finding features of a non-fiction text.

In writing, out text The Lost Words has enabled us to capture initial thoughts on one poem, and look at the different language features used, and how they help the reader understand the meaning of the poem.

For maths we have been focusing on numbers up to 100,000, including the skills of rounding and understanding the place value concept of each digit.

In geography, we have revised knowledge of the location of continents, oceans and countries in Europe.

For science, we have started our new unit of work on fossils, geological time and classification.

We are looking at the artist Ellsworth Kelly, and the technique of blind contour drawing, which the children thought was great fun.

Homework will commence next week, and a reminder that PE kit is required for cricket on Tuesday and Real PE on Thursday.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
