We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 25.09.23

Dear parents and carers,

Once again, the children have enjoyed their Chance to Shine cricket session, and are displaying high standards of behaviour and respect towards the coaches who are leading the sessions.

A reminder that Forest School continues in rain or shine and your children need to be dressed in the appropriate clothing, so that they can fully immerse themselves in the session.

On Wednesday we are going to church for a Harvest Worship with Mel. We would like the children to bring and carry one item to the church for the benefit of those needing to use The Food Bank at this time. Please see list below:

  • Tinned meat products - meat balls, ham, hot-dogs, etc.
  • Tinned vegetables - all kinds
  • Tinned fruit - all kinds
  • Breakfast cereals - all kinds

We have started our new English unit ‘The Errand’ and our new reading unit based on ‘The War of the Worlds’, both of which are generating excellent discussions and introducing the children to some challenging vocabulary, e.g. infusoria!

In maths we have been looking at rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000, and next week will look at rounding to the nearest 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000. The children showed excellent reasoning and problem-solving skills in these lessons.

In science we were revisiting parts of a flower as part of our classification section for this unit of work. The children could recall much of the learning from Year 4 which is fantastic!

Have a lovely weekend.
