Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 09.10.23
Dear parents and carers,
In maths this week we started our work on addition. The children were looking at different mental strategies they could use to add numbers together as well as using the formal method of column addition.
In reading we completed our unit on War of the Worlds and next week will do a mini reading unit on our class read, The Infinite Lives of Maisie Day.
In writing we looked further at the WAGOLL and the different language features that have been used. For example, short sentences to create tension, similes to help us visualise a description and repetition to create a sense of drama.
In PE we did a Tri-golf session where some of Year 6 kindly gave up their Golden Time to support our class - thank you Year 6!
For art we looked at a different way of printing leaves and foliage - as shown in the picture above. The children put different leaves inside a folded piece of calico and, using a mallet, gently bashed the leaves until they printed onto the other side of the cloth. The effect is beautiful and would make a wonderful wallpaper print.
In error, the wrong spellings were set on Ed Shed last week. As a result, the children will get the same spellings this week as well. The children have found some of these tricky.
Have a lovely weekend.
