Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 16.10.23
Dear parents and carers,
A big thank you to all who donated to the Rotary Shoebox Scheme. As a school, we have got 65 boxes to hand over.
This week in science we completed our unit on fossils, geological time and classification. We are all looking forward to learning more about classification on our Year 5 trip to Marwell Zoo, which is the Thursday after half-term.
In reading we enjoyed our 'mini' unit on The Infinite Lives of Masie Day (our class read). We have been looking closely at vocabulary and how the author has used different techniques to show characters' emotions.
Our geography lesson this week was very explosive as Mrs Erdbeer demonstrated a volcanic eruption to help the children understand why there are so many volcanoes on Heimaey (Iceland).
We have completed our Chance to Shine cricket sessions. PE will return to our usual Wednesday and Thursday slots.
The class has completed their music sessions this half-term with Mr Thomas and thoroughly enjoyed using the iPads to generate compositions.
Group 2 will commence Forest School sessions after half-term on Tuesdays and will need appropriate outdoor clothing.
Have a great half-term.
The Year 5 team.
