Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 06.11.23
Dear parents and carers,
Our trip to Marwell Zoo was absolutely brilliant! We were super lucky with the weather and enjoyed lots of sunshine and no crowds. The children were really enthusiastic and came up with lots of ideas about what animal they were going to make a small frame structure for. Our particular favourite was the sloth (as seen in the picture above). 'Santos' was within touching distance from us, we were so lucky to be able to watch him enjoy his lunch of butternut squash. When we left the tropical house, a lady came up to me to tell me that the sloth's keeper (who was close by at all times) had commented on what a well-behaved class we were and how lovely that was to experience. I've never been prouder!
This week in maths the children completed the addition and subtraction unit. We will be revisiting this again later on in the year.
In writing the children have completed their cliffhanger narratives. They successfully captured the scary and dark atmosphere of the theme and left me wondering what was going to happen next to their character. Great work Year 5!
In geography we were learning about why people continue to live on Hiemaey despite living next to an active volcano.
In science we conducted an investigation looking at irreversible changes using warm milk and vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.
Have a great weekend.
